Essential Duties:
Responsibility of this position will include the development and management of web content for the KilleenTexas.gov and subsidiary websites, online resources and integral tools for communication. The Webmaster will work under the supervision of the Director of Public Information (DPI) and closely with the Public Information staff to ensure the City’s website meets the department‘s mission to deliver relevant, concise, and timely information to the public. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and an enthusiastic team player skilled in creating and managing online content.
Manage the City of Killeen website content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and applicability. Develop and manage a digital content calendar; receive suggestions from key internal stakeholders to create an engaging online user experience. Manage web content, content schedules, and create online resources for campaigns and programs for the City of Killeen departments and divisions. Ensure web content is consistent with overall communications objectives. Request and receive information and format content to post and to produce on the City’s website. Oversee the technical aspects of content strategy including database maintenance, HTML, and CSS editing. Collaborate with the Public Information staff to integrate other communications tools. Perform systematic checks of all websites to ensure accuracy and functionality on all webpages. Document programs, processes, and requirements, and maintain current accounts and access codes. Generate reports and analyze website traffic & flow. Work closely with web developers, team members, outside agencies, and outside consultants. Other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or related field; and Must have a minimum of four (4) years web content management experience Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements: Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license by date of hire. GE Opens Two Jet Engine Plants as Next-Gen Aircraft Get Ready for Take-Off

David Joyce, president and CEO of GE Aviation, spent the last the decade developing some of the world’s most advanced jet engines. His timing was perfect. Plane manufacturers estimate that the world aircraft fleet will double in size over the next 20 years to some 40,000 planes. Joyce now needs to make enough engines to meet the voracious demand.

This is a good problem to have. That’s why GE Aviation is opening two new advanced manufacturing plants this week, a composite factory in Ellisville, Mississippi and a “super-alloy” plant in Auburn, Alabama. GE has invested $130 million in the plants and plans to hire 550 workers by 2017.

Much of the aircraft growth will come from single-aisle planes built by Boeing, Airbus, COMAC and other aircraft makers. This market needs next-generation jet engines like the LEAP, which GE Aviation makes in a joint-venture with France’s Snecma.

The new plants will make parts for the LEAP, the GEnx, and other advanced engines. The Ellisville plant will manufacture “composite fan platforms” that lock in the engine fan blades, and other composite structures. The platforms are made from carbon fiber composites, an advanced durable material much lighter than conventional metals. The material shaves pounds off the engine and helps customers save expensive jet fuel. “Carbon fiber composites have been around for some time, but it’s very hard to mass produce them consistently,” says Rick Kennedy, GE Aviation spokesman. “That’s the secret sauce and we’ve got it.”

GE is becoming one of the largest manufacturers of advanced composites in the U.S. The company now has four composite plants, including one in nearby Batesville, Mississippi, which already employs 350 workers. They make blades and fan cases for the GEnx jet engines that serve on Boeing’s Dreamliner and the new 747-8 passenger jet. In June GE will open another new factory that will produce ceramic matrix composites. These advanced, heat resistant materials serve inside jet engines and can work at temperatures as high as 2,400 F, beyond any advanced alloys. “We are in the process of revolutionizing the manufacturing of composites and jet engine design,” Kennedy says.

The new Auburn plant will manufacture super-alloy blades for high-pressure turbines. The blades squeeze air to titanic pressures prior to ignition. They are must be crafted to perfect aerodynamic shapes and sport tiny, laser-drilled cooling holes that “bleed in” air so they can withstand the temperatures in which they operate. “We think of them as a work of art,” says Joyce, who has trained as an aerospace engineer.

“This new sweet home in Alabama joins the growing GE Aviation family of production plants at an exciting point in our history,” Joyce says.

Trader Joe’s selects Irving for it’s distribution center

Trader Joe’s will open its first Texas distribution center in Irving later this year, allowing the popular grocery chain to ratchet up its Texas expansion.

Hiring will begin in about 90 days for more than 200 workers to run the warehouse that may also end up serving surrounding states.

Trader Joe’s has leased a 728,530-square-foot building at 5101 Frye Road in the Towne Lake Business Park.

The building is on 38.8 acres and needs to be retooled for a grocer. That work will begin Friday, said Trader Joe’s spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki. Asked about the territory the facility will service, she said, “For now, the warehouse will serve Texas.” She declined to say how many stores such a facility can handle.

John M. Bonnot, director of the Irving Economic Development Partnership, said it’s a big deal for Irving, and the number of jobs is significant for a distribution center.

“We have been successful in landing a number of new companies to Irving-Las Colinas this year and last, predominantly office users,” he said. A number of these relocations have had as many as 200 jobs, which, he said, isn’t uncommon for an office. But hiring more than 200 people for a distribution center “is huge and not the norm.”

Trader Joe’s is receiving tax abatements, which Bonnot said are “common practice” these days for companies relocating or expanding.

The building, which was previously owned by Pannatoni Development Co., hasn’t been occupied since it was completed during the recession in 2008.

Trader Joe’s opened its first Texas store in Fort Worth in June and now has five stores open in the state, in Plano, San Antonio and two in Houston.

A store it built on Lower Greenville in Dallas looks ready to open soon, but the company hasn’t said when. The company has also announced a second Dallas store in a mixed-use development planned for the northwest corner of Walnut Hill Lane and North Central Expressway. Construction there hasn’t started yet.

An Austin store is scheduled for 2014. Trader Joe’s has 390 stores in 35 states, and a large number are in California, where it was founded and is still based. Its expansion to other states has accelerated over the last 10 years. The chain, which is generally secretive about its operations, wouldn’t say how many distribution centers it has.

The Irving facility will be operated by World Class Distribution Inc. for Trader Joe’s.
